29 countries sign declaration to support PSC in targeting sulphur rules

A Ministerial Declaration that has been under development for three years has received signatories from 29 countries from the Paris MoU and Tokyo MoU lists to support new goals of Port State Control on sulphur emissions.

  • According to the Danish Maritime Authority, effective PSC inspections have proven to ensure ships comply with international regulations and therefore provide a level playing field.
  • PSC inspections have also reduced the number of defects and detentions, stabilising at 3.5% annually.
  • As well as the enforcement of sulphur regulations, the declaration focuses on the Polar Code, acceptance of electronic certification, transparency and reducing burdens on industry in connection with PSC inspections.
