Vickers Oil has received approval from Rolls-Royce for the use of Biogear XP 68, an Environmentally Acceptable Lubricant (EAL) in Rolls-Royce Marine AS Ulsteinvik Tunnel Thrusters.
Biogear XP is a range of extreme pressure (EP) EAL oils that are non-toxic and contain anti-wear and micro pitting performance qualities, designed for use where potential for fluid loss to occur lies, such as from thrusters and some CPP designs.
These lubricants are based on fully saturated synthetic esters with a high degree of renewability and use state-of-the art technology, achieving biodegradability of greater than 60% in the 28 day OECD 301B test and meeting the ecological definitions and requirements laid down in the 2013 Vessel General Permit (VGP) published by the US EPA in March 2013.
By using EALs ship operators can achieve cost saving benefits through enhanced performance and as an effective way to mitigate the effects of accidental and incidental leakage from equipment such as CPPs, sterntubes, thrusters, stabilisers, deck and hull equipment.
The range is available in ISO 68, 100 and 150 viscosities and is stocked worldwide.
