BAE Systems to invest in digital shipyard in Australia

BAE Systems is looking to build a digital shipyard in Adelaide, Australia, as part of its bid for the $35 billion Future Frigate contract for the Royal Australian Navy.  

  • If BAE systems wins the tender, it will build the Global Combat Ship-Australia.
  • A$1.5bn will be invested by BAE Systems in the design aspect of the advanced warship. The company will also invest A$100m in IT systems for the digitalisation of the ship.
  • Intelligent on-board and shore-based solutions will monitor the performance of the ship and its systems, enabling the staff to focus on performing the right tasks.
