Ballast Water Management Convention Implementation Training Course Established

Warsash Maritime Academy, part of Southampton Solent University, has launched a two-day course in response to the imminent ratification of the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Ballast Water Management Convention.

The course has been designed to give company and organisation officials the knowledge and training they need in order to implement the Convention and monitor their environmental standards.

It will also outline the main treatment technologies available for installation and their associated issues as well as considerations for retrofitting, and will discuss the key foreign legislation and differences within the Convention requirements. As enforcement authorities will have a part to play to ensure that the vessels comply with the requirements, the course also provides an overview of the key monitoring and compliance checks to be expected.

To be delivered by Warsash’s maritime training experts, the course aims to promote clear understanding of implementation and monitoring at an early stage. At the moment there are no mandatory training requirements and therefore the workshop is designed to help companies understand how to implement and develop in-house training for monitoring and decision-making purposes.
The first two-day course will commence on October 5, 2016.
