California ports offer $500,000 for technologies that make engines cleaner

The Port of Long Beach, in partnership with the Port of Los Angeles, has asked for proposals to demonstrate technologies that can reduce emissions from, tugboats, crew boats, barges and other harbour boats.

  • US $500,000 has been offered by the ports to demonstrations of technologies that can upgrade engines to Tier III or Tier IIII, making engines 70% cleaner.
  • More viable cost effective technologies are wanted by the ports to make them greener and more sustainable.
  • In San Pedro Bay area, harbour craft is the second largest source of diesel particulate matter pollution and contribute 10% of NOx and 6% of GHG emissions.
