Carnival to Expand Long Beach Shore Power Facilities

Carnival Cruise Line is to expand its Long Beach Cruise terminal facility, California, in order to accommodate larger ships and facilitate the use of shore power.

The expansion will see the terminal triple in size from 66,000 square feet to 142,000 square feet, allowing Carnival to use 100% of the Geodesic Dome rather than just the partial area that they are operating currently. The additional space will accommodate two-way operations, enabling embarking guests to access the terminal prior to completion of disembarkation.

Carnival also has additional plans to expand cold-ironing facilities at the portside in order to enable larger vessels and cruise ships to plug into the local electric grid and reduce their air emissions while in port.

The construction is due for completion in late 2017.
