China extends ECA to eleven ports

From January 1, 2017, the 0.5% maximum permitted sulphur content of marine fuel oil to be used by ships at berth in Chinese ports has been extended.

  • The additional ports include Tianjin, Qinhuangdao, Tangshan, Huanghua, Guangzhou and Zhuhai.
  • This brings the number of key ports in Emission Control Areas Shanghai, Ningbo–Zhoushan, Suzhou and Nantong, to eleven.
  • The relevant berthing period and time during which low-sulphur fuel must be used is outlined in the Correspondent’s Circular which can be accessed here.
