China Navigation Caught Breaching Emissions Regulation

China Navigation Co, a Singaporean ship owning company, has been fined US $129,500 for failing to switch to low-sulphur fuel when entering the California Emission Control Area (ECA).

The California Air Resources Board found that between 5 August and 28 December 2012, the Chennan vessel was using non-compliant heavy fuel oil (HFO) within 24 nautical miles off the coast on 12 occasions across four voyages.

China Navigation has paid the fine in addition to agreeing to comply with all fuel switchover requirements and keep accurate records on file.
