Chinese research vessels to receive Wärtsilä propulsion systems

Wärtsilä is to provide the main engines, retractable thrusters, and NOx reducing systems for two new research vessels being built for the China Ocean Mineral Resources R&D Association (COMRA).

  • COMRA undertakes exploration and research of activities in the seabed, ocean floor and subsoil.
  • Vessels will feature Wärtsilä’s NOR system to ensure compliance with the IMO’s Tier III regulations on NOx emissions, while the engines will ensure that noise and vibration are minimised.
  • Ships are being built at the CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding and Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group yards. The orders were booked in April 2017.
