Cruise ship undergoes wastewater treatment system retrofit during drydock

Evac has released details of the retrofit of its wastewater treatment system that was carried out onboard a Regent Seven Seas Cruises vessel in October 2016.

  • According to Evac, retrofitting a membrane bioreactor (MBR) is difficult and for this reason was carried out during drydock rather than operation as doing so would have increased fitting of individual parts and required more time onboard for crew, making the vessel less profitable.
  • For this reason the hull was cut open in two parts while the ship was in drydock, enabling the MBR to be fitted as ready assembled units in 7 days.
  • The Seven Seas Voyager now features the Evac MBR to treat all wastewater, enabling vessel operation in environmentally sensitive areas.
