DNV GL teams up with Microsoft to launch new data platform

DNV GL has launched a new data platform in conjunction with Microsoft that it says will help increase data quality and industry transformation.

  • The Norwegian/German class society insists it will not own data used in this new service, to be called Veracity, but aims to facilitate easier connections between different companies that need the information.
  • DNV GL chief executive Remi Eriksen: “This is the start of transforming some core elements of our 150-year-old company into a global digital-platform business. It will not happen overnight, but we have a unique starting point.”
  • It is the latest class society to focus heavily on big data quality and delivery as other IACS members focus heavily on using data to drive safety and efficiency services in shipping.
