European Investment Bank Earmarks EUR 1 Billion for Ship Clean Tech Financing

The Board of Directors of the European Investment Bank has approved EUR 1 billion for investment into energy efficiency technologies and financing for both retrofit and newbuild ships as part of a new initiative intended to reduce emissions from shipping.

This EUR 1 billion sum is part of a total EUR 7.4 billion that has been granted for financing 38 projects across Europe and the world. . Under the European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI) the approved loans backed by the EU budget guarantee is part of the Investment Plan for Europe that aims to mobilise EUR 315 billion in new investment to transform services and accelerate growth.
