Ship ballast water and their hulls are two excellent vectors for aquatic fauna and flora to traverse the oceans and become invasive species in new habitats.

Additionally a fouled hull of a ship is an expense and another environmental threat in that is creates extra drag through the water requiring more engine power and therefore more emissions to be emitted. A clean hull is therefore a hull that is not adding any additional greenhouses gases into the atmosphere while also reducing the risks of invasive species that can have damaging ecological and economical impacts.

This page is dedicated to news about the technologies, policies and science behind reducing invasive species and biofouling.
