Ship ballast water and their hulls are two excellent vectors for aquatic fauna and flora to traverse the oceans and become invasive species in new habitats.

Additionally a fouled hull of a ship is an expense and another environmental threat in that is creates extra drag through the water requiring more engine power and therefore more emissions to be emitted. A clean hull is therefore a hull that is not adding any additional greenhouses gases into the atmosphere while also reducing the risks of invasive species that can have damaging ecological and economical impacts.

This page is dedicated to news about the technologies, policies and science behind reducing invasive species and biofouling.

At Fathom World we strive to deliver insight and news without bias or prejudice.  To achieve this effectively we would like to send news direct to you on a regular basis.

Impartial accurate news is a somewhat thankless task, but there are those of us who do this because we believe in it. We know that it is hard to cut through the noise, and while the temptation is to simply amplify it or add to it, we aim for unbiased focus. We offer clarification of complexity.
