Hong Kong is to introduce its own regulation to ensure that vessels entering Hong Kong waters use cleaner fuel.

  • Regulation will enter into force January 2019 and will support the Pearl River Delta’s Ministry of Transport’s clean air action plan for Hong Kong, Macau and the PRD.
  • Vessels trading within the PRD Domestic Emission Control zone will only be permitted to run on low-sulphur fuel no more than 0.5%.
  • Penalisation for not complying with this level is yet unknown.
