Hyundai and KSS Line sign MoU to meet global sulphur cap

Hyundai Heavy Industries’ spin-off company Hyundai Global Services has signed a memorandum of understand with KSS Line to enter an eco-friendly ship business.

  • Medium size liquid petroleum carriers owned by KSS will undergo retrofitting of exhaust gas cleaning systems to meet the IMO’s global sulphur cap of 0.5% come 2020, using standard and cheaper bunker fuel.
  • MoU will see companies operate a task force team carrying out basic engineering of the EGCS.
  • KSS will analyse the fuel savings of the system using internal voyage data from the retrofitted ships and will conduct a feasibility study of the joint venture.
