IMO Technical Advisor Awarded for Outstanding Contribution to Ship Efficiency

Astrid Dispert, Technical Adviser to the GEF-UNDP-IMO Global Maritime Energy Efficiency Partnerships (GloMEEP) project was presented with the ‘Lloyd’s Register Outstanding Contribution to Ship Efficiency’ award at the 3rd annual Ship Efficiency Awards in London on November 2.

The GloMEEP project supports developing countries to prevent air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions from ships. With capacity-building at the heart of the project, this year has seen a host of training workshops in the 10 lead pilot countries as well as the development of training guides to help countries implement the key IMO regulations for preventing air pollution from ships and reducing emissions in MARPOL Annex VI.

This particular award celebrates an individual, company or association which has made an outstanding contribution to improving the energy efficiency or environmental impact of the maritime industry through research or training and education.  The winner is chosen by the public.

Dispert’s fellow award nominees were Mr. Jan Fransen, CEO of the Green Award Foundation, and WWL (Wallenius Wilhelmson Logistics).

Speaking at the awards ceremony Ms. Dispert raised the importance of promoting a global energy-efficiency culture, which should “lie at the heart of a sustainable maritime transportation system”. Ms. Dispert thanked all those involved in the project and emphasised that “a lot of excellent work has been done in the respective countries in a very short period of time. And it is encouraging to witness with how much dedication and energy these countries have embraced this project.”
