Indian ports in $104m solar and wind power investment

As part of its Green Port Initiative, the Indian Ministry of Shipping has begun installation of solar and wind energy projects at twelve major ports.

  • Solar energy capacity to be installed in 12 ports, and wind projects in two ports around the country.
  • Investment total will be INR 7.04 billion (US $104.5 million).
  • State officials estimate this will reduce 136,500 MT of CO2 emissions annually.
  • Anticipated lower energy bills by up to INR 75m annually.
