Inmarsat courts West Norway’s maritime tech cluster

UK-listed Inmarsat has said it has teamed up with a a group of shipping and maritime companies on the west coast of Norway to help promote the use of digital solutions in the maritime sector,

The satellite service provider said it is working with the Blue Maritime Cluster which is based in the Møre and Ålesund region in Norway, saying that over twenty cluster partners joined senior Inmarsat management for a “digital disruption workshop” last week.

The aim it said was to look at  Inmarsat’s future bandwidth programmes and encourage third party innovators and disrupters to develop applications that can use the high-speed broadband services available on INmrsat’s Fleet Xpress service.

The Møre Blue Maritime Cluster consists of companies such as offshore supply vessel owners, shipyards, and technology firms such as ABB and ROlls ROyce. Inmarsat is also a member
