Intelligent LNG Portal Launched

DNV GL has launched a new liquefied natural gas (LNG) intelligence portal to enable sharing of market intelligence and to promote LNG as an alternative source of fuel.

The LNG intelligence portal (LNGi), enables those interested in the potential of LNG to keep track of movements and developments.

By bringing together suppliers of LNG such as Shell, Rolls-Royce marine division and MAN, subscribers will be able to assess the availability of LNG for specific trade routes and newbuild projects.  The portal will also provide information about current market developments and will enable those logged on to see the status of other alternative fuels and emissions reductions technologies across each ship segment, ensuring that ship owners in particular who are considering LNG have taken into account all the relevant factors.

Included in LNGi is an interactive map that provides information regarding bunkering opportunities around the world and data on existing and planned infrastructures that are readily available to view.  Furthermore, statistics and information on emissions reducing technologies, such as sulphur oxides (SOx) scrubbers and their market uptake will be available to enable subscribers to see the most common methods for emissions compliance. Members will also have a say in which future features of the portal they would like to see developed.

The Society of Gas as Marine Fuel (SGMF) will support LNGi by reviewing the data published in the portal and providing information about LNG bunkering projects

Lauran Wetemans, Shell’s General Manager LNG Business Development, commented“LNGi keeps us in touch with new developments around port infrastructure and additions to the LNG world fleet. This information helps us anticipate the needs of our customers and identify new opportunities.”

Ole Skeltved, Head of Marine Installation Department at MAN Diesel & Turbo added: “Such a comprehensive overview would be difficult for any single company to obtain on its own. LNGi offers shared business intelligence on a much broader scale than previously available and helps give ship owners, who are new to the LNG industry, the confidence they need to move forward with their business plans in this field.”
