Jotun Updates Hull Coating Performance Guarantee

In light of the recent approval of International Standard Organization (ISO) 19030, the Hull Performance Standard, by the ISO’s Draft International Standard (DIS) ballot, Jotun has updated its Hull Performance Solution (HPS) to ensure that it is fully compliant with the incoming standard.

Rather than using their own methodology upon which the HPS guarantee is currently based, Jotun will instead use the ISO 19030 standard for the guarantee. This means that the industry will have  the first ISO Hull and Propeller Standard-compliant hull coating solution.

The foundation of Jotun’s HPS is the SeaQuantum X200 product.  It is Jotun’s first antifouling that maximises initial performance through reducing friction and lifetime performance due to its antifouling properties. The coating comes with a full suite of sensors to measure hull performance and speed loss.

In May this year, MISC selected Jotun’s HPS for two of its liquefied natural gas (LNG) ships to cut fuel costs and CO2 emissions by 10%.  In April 2016 it was also revealed that Gearbulk has saved USD 1.5 million in fuel thanks to Jotun’s HPS coating as well as 12,055 tonnes of CO2 over a 60-month period.
