Meriaura Group Applies Ecospeed Biocide-Free Coating to Cargo Newbuild

Meriaura Group, has selected Subsea Indus Meriaura Group Applies Ecospeed Biocide-Free Coating to Cargo Newbuild tries’ non-toxic Ecospeed hull coating to its newbuild cargo ship Mirva VG, part of its Eco Coasters fleet.

This is the second newbuild cargo ship to receive the coating.  The company stated that Ecospeed was chosen as its fits in line with their strategy to build and operate environmentally efficient vessels.  Furthermore, the vessels will be sailing in the Baltic where operability in harsh ice conditions is essential and Ecospeed has proven its ability to last longer in abrasive conditions.

Ecospeed is a hard coating that contains no chemicals or toxins while reducing drag significantly for fuel savings and emissions reductions.  Its biocide free nature means that it has no impact upon the environment and has actually proven to improve vessel efficiency with time.  This is due to the fact that hull cleaning actually increases the smoothness of the coating, rather than wearing it away as seen in traditional coatings.

The paint only requires one coating because of this reason, meaning that the Mirva, and previously coated vessel, the Eeva, will not need reapplication during their lifetimes.
