More ships get green discount from Gothenburg Port

What’s news:

  • In 2016, 75 vessels, representing one in three ship calls, applied for and earned a discount of 10% on port charges at the Port of Gothenburg, Sweden.
  • In 2015, the first year of the initiative, only 41 vessels earned a discount.
  • The port says it uses two established green indexes to decide if ships are eligible for the saving. These are the Environmental Shipping Index and the Clean Shipping Index.
  • The port also offers an additional discount for any ship using LNG as a fuel, up to 30%.
  • The port is now saying it is even easier to seek an environmental discount.  With effect from January 1, 2017, registration takes place automatically when vessels call at the port.
  • Vessels running on LNG will still need to report to the Gothenburg Port Authority to secure the discount.
