New LNG Engine Fuel-Saving Software Released

28 Oct

Eniram Ltd. have launched their newest efficiency tool, Eniram Engine that is intended for use on tri-fuel diesel electric (TFDE) liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers.

What Does The Eniram Engine Software Do?

Eniram Engine takes into account real-time actual engine operation by combining data from onboard fuel flow meters with generator loads, power produced and Specific Fuel Consumption (SFC). Following this analysis of this data, Eniram Engine suggests optimal engine combination and fuel type for the prevailing conditions in order to reduce fuel consumption.

When fuel oil is used to supplement Boil-Off Gas (BOG) as a fuel for the ship’s propulsion and energy systems, the tool provides guidance with mixed fuel usage only. If the BOG is reliquefied through an onboard reliquefication plant and fuel oil is used for the engines, only suggestions for fuel oil usage is provided.

Also, in the event that there is ever a sudden need to increase power output, Eniram Engine contains a buffer feature that helps Engineers understand how much operating reserve power (or buffer) they have available for each engine suggestion compared to the actual.

What Do Eniram Say?

“Monitoring the available power is critical for safe and efficient operations on board. Eniram Engine demonstrates that even small changes in engine use pattern during a voyage can have a significant impact in reducing fuel and overall operating costs,”said Jussi Pyörre, CTO, Eniram.

“Based on our analysis, ship owners will be able to achieve a reduction of 2% to 4% of total fuel consumption.”
