California port records 88% drop in particulate matter

The Port of Long Beach, California, has recorded an 88% drop in diesel particulate matter since 2005.

  • Inventory conducted by an independent consultant also found the ports NOx emissions were down 56% and greenhouse gas emissions lower by 22%.
  • POLB Clean Air Action Plan works to improve air quality through low sulphur fuels, increased use of shore power, vessel speed reduction and clean air technologies.
  • POLB container terminal has more cargo-handling equipment operating at zero emissions (11% of the port’s fleet) than any other sea port in the country, according to POLB Executive Director Mario Cordero.
