Port of Montreal receives $5m for shore power project

The Government of Canada has contributed $5m to the Port of Montreal Authority’s shore power project.

  • Project will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by allowing ships to use to electrical grid power and switch off their engines while in port.
  • Five projects have been completed across Canada since the program was launched. Government of Canada is also funding installation of shore power facilities for container vessels at two terminals at the Port of Vancouver.
  • The Honourable Marc Garneau, Minister of Transport, said “By taking action to reduce greenhouse gases and air pollution, we are improving the lives of Canadians while investing in the future of cleaner transportation.”
