Port of Hueneme Welcomes World’s “Greenest” RoRo Vessel

Wallenius Wilhelmsen Lines (WWL) company leaders and Port officials have welcomed the first high efficiency Post-Panamax ship to the Port of Hueneme, California.

The M/V Thalatta is a highly efficient roll-on roll-off (RoRo) HERO class ship that increases capacity and flexibility while reducing emissions and has been designed to improve the port’s environmental agenda.

The Thalatta is fitted with an exhaust gas cleaning system (EGCS) to reduce sulphur emissions to less than 0.1% for compliance with regulation in Emission Control Areas (ECAs), and removes 70% of particulate matter as well as reducing nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions.

The ship has been hailed as one of the greenest in the global RoRo fleet thanks to its scrubber technology that allows the ship to generate a steam based release at berth instead of diesel exhaust.

Thalatta is the second in a total of eight HERO Post-Pana Panamax vessels that commenced service for WWL in 2015.  The final ship will be introduced to the WWL fleet in 2017.
