Port of Shenzhen to Adopt 0.5% Fuel Sulphur Content Rules

The Port of Shenzhen is to enforce requirements for ships at berth to use bunker fuel of less than 0.5% sulphur content from October 1 this year.

The establishment of the Emission Control Area (ECA) rules sees the port follow in the footsteps of other ports in the Yantze River Delta such as Shanghai, Ningbo-Zhoushan, Suzhou and Nantong, which have been limiting emissions within an ECA since April this year.

Other key ports within Pearl River Delta are expected to implement the limits from January 2017 in accordance with the original schedule of China’s Maritime Safety Administration.

The Port of Shenzen has ten berths that are equipped with shore power facilities.
