On June 28, 2016, the European Sustainable Shipping Forum (ESSF) met in Brussels and discussions around the European Union’s (EU) Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) regulation was at the top of the agenda.
This was the 6th Plenary meeting to take place and had some significant outcomes, including the endorsement of the report of the EU MRV Sub-group. suggested that shipping companies have to urgently initiate the process for compliance with the MRV as no accredited verifiers for shipping companies are available so far. ECSA emphasised the importance of keeping the verification process as simple and as aligned with the IMO as possible, resulting in their support for recommendation for further guidance submitted with the sub-group.
