SK Shipping Selects WinGD Dual-Fuel Engines for LNG Carriers

SK Shipping has chosen Winterthur Gas & Diesel (WinGD) to supply 5-cylinder X72DF engines for two of its newbuild liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers.

Both LNG carriers, which are to be built by Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), will feature GTT Mark III Flex membrane cargo containment system and HHI’s Hi-SGAS fuel combining system that re-liquefies 100% of the boil-off gas from the cargo.

The WinGD engines can use heavy fuel oil (HFO) marine diesel oil (MDO) and marine gas oil (MGO) in addition to LNG.

The WinGD X-DF engine employs a low-pressure LNG fuel handling system that reduces the need for high-pressure compressors to minimise energy use, equipment cost and maintenance.

The ships are scheduled for delivery in 2019, while the engines, which are to be built by HHI’s Engine & Machinery Division (HHI-EMD) are expected to be delivered in February 2018 and April 2018.
