Three new carbon fibre ferries to be built for Chinese market

Brødrene Aa, Hyen, has announced a contract for three new high-speed carbon fibre catamaran ferries to be operated by China-based Zhongshan-Hong Kong Passenger Shipping Co-op.

  • Ferries will be constructed from carbon fibre reinforced plastics, which increases the strength 2-3 times that of traditional glass fibre, while reducing the weight by 40%.
  • Carbon fibres also do not rust or corrode like metals, reducing maintenance costs.
  • Vessels will start construction in November 2017 and are expected to be completed and delivered in Hong Kong by June 2019. They will operate between Hong Kong and Guangzhou, China.
