US class society ABS issues first “cyber safety” notation

HOUSTON-based ABS claims it is the first class society to create a cyber safety notation for the marine and offshore industries.

ABS launched range of notations in september 2016 that customers can seek by following the class society’s guidance programme.
The cyber safety programme is aimed at reducing the risk of cybersecurity-related conditions or incidents.
The US class society says it is an industry first, but does not name the client nor the cost.
Chris Wiernicki, ABS Chairman and Chief Executive:“The focus on cyber safety is increasing, and that is changing the expectations industry has for classification services.”
