USCG releases blog on cyber security

The Department of Homeland Security National Cybersecurity Communications and Integration Center (NCCIC) and the United States Coast Guard have released a blog on the threats to network infrastructure devices.

  • Advancing threat of organised hacker groups increases threat to information systems and protecting this is critical.
  • Compromising the network infrastructure leads to hackers gaining full control and further compromising other devices and data so that traffic can be redirected or changed.
  • The blog lists 6 steps to reducing cyber threat including – segregate networks and functions, limit unnecessary lateral communications, harden network devices, secure access to infrastructure devices, perform out-of-band network management, validate integrity of hardware and software.
