Wärtsilä to supply EGCS to Japanese bulk carriers

Wärtsilä will supply its exhaust gas cleaning systems for two new 56,000 DWT Handymax bulk carriers for NYK Bulk & Projects Carriers, a wholly owned subsidiary of Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha.

  • Order marks the first vessels owned by NYK Group to have EGCS installed and the first supply from Wärtsilä for this equipment to any Japanese company.
  • The EGCS remove sulphur oxides by at least 90% to enable the ships to be compliant with the IMO’s global SOx regulation to enter into force in 2020.
  • The ships are being built at Oshima Shipbuilding in Japan and will be delivered in the 4th quarter of 2018 and the 1st quarter of 2019.
