Yara Installs Multi-Engine Inlet Inline Scrubbers on LPG Carrier Duo

Yara Marine Technologies has delivered, commissioned and certified a multi engine inlet, inline sulphur oxides (SOx) scrubber for two of Hyundai Heavy Industries operating liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) vessels, Yara Kara and Yara Nauma.

This marks the first time a scrubber company has received certification for a multi inlet, inline scrubber system from DNV GL that is operating on ships today.

The ships, which are already in operation, are equipped with two scrubbers serving the three diesel generator engines and a main engine. One scrubber is connected to the main engine and the second scrubber is connected to the three auxiliary engine exhaust system to remove SOx down to 0.1% for compliant operation in Emission Control Areas (ECAs).

The scrubber system has received the International Air Pollution Prevention (IAPP) and MEG G certificate from DNV-GL. Yara has also filed for a patent on the new technology.

The Yara multi inlet scrubber system was built at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in Korea.

Mr. Kai Latun, Yara Chief Marketing Officer, commented: “Yara Marine is the first exhaust gas cleaning company to get DNV-GL certification on the multi inlet, inline scrubber system, and we are also the only company to have completed successful commissioning of two ships that are now already in operation”

“We are extremely pleased with this important product development the company has made as space requirements are of huge concerns to all ship-owners, and by successfully connecting 3 engines to one inline scrubber system much needed space is cleared and can be put to use in more efficient ways”, continued Mr. Latun.
