The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority has presented twelve shipping and three cruise lines with a Blue Circle Award for 2015, honouring their commitment to environmental shipping and recognising choices that go above and beyond regulatory compliance.
The Blue Circle Award celebrates marine carriers with the highest rate of participation in Vancouver Fraser Port Authority’s EcoAction Program. The program sets goals for air emissions reductions for ocean-going vessels that enter the port, helping support the long-term sustainability objectives while benefiting industry and communities.
Ship operators that are part of the program are entitled to a 47% discount of harbour dues by choosing a variety of eligible fuels, technology options and environmental programs and classifications.
Robin Silvester, President and Chief Executive Officer at the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, commented: “The Blue Circle Awards celebrate industry commitment to sustainability and are awarded for only the highest emissions reduction achievements.”
Shipping lines can apply for the program at each call or provide an annual declaration for their vessels.
