Inspirational winners announced for ‘Wind Ship – The Future’ youth poster contest

Press Release: The winners and runner up entries to the “Wind Ship – the Future” youth poster design contest have been chosen by a panel of top environmental, political and industry trailblazers, through a public vote and among International Windship Association (IWSA) members.

Around 100 artwork entries were received from budding young artists across 10 countries worldwide between two and seventeen years old, each sharing their vision for wind-powered ships of the future. The quality of the submissions led to a very tight vote, however from over 2,000 votes cast there were nine winners selected.

The winners and runners up in each age category were as follows: for the 2–5-year-old category; Martin from France (4) and Sophia (5) from Greece were declared the winners, while runners up were Shiho (5) and Souya (5) from Japan, Abdullah (5) from Egypt and Thais (4) from France.

The winners in the 6-11 years age category were Ryu (10) from Japan, Kilwa (9) from Denmark and Titouan (7) from France. Runners up were Esteban (10), Soline (11) and Dilma (6) all from France, Jana (9) and Ahmed (6) from Egypt and Nina (8) from the Netherlands

The 12–17-year-old category was won outright across all three votes by Safina (14) from Kazakhstan, with runners up Ola (13), Emma (13) and Anna (15) all from Norway and Menna (12) from Egypt.

“It has been wonderful to see the imagination of young minds shine through in this youth poster contest. Their visions of what a ‘Wind Ship – The Future’ could be like are all incredibly inspiring. This younger generation of future naval architects, marine engineers and ship captains who participated in this poster contest will be responsible for the clean, green and sustainable future for shipping industry that we are laying the roadmap for now. Judging by the creativity and innovation displayed in the artwork entries, we are in good hands!” says Gavin Allwright, IWSA Secretary General.

All of the submitted entries to the “Wind Ship – the Future” poster design contest will be on permanent display in the virtual gallery: https://www.wind-ship.org/en/youth-poster-contest-wind-ship-the-future/

Winning and runners-up artwork will also be displayed at IWSA events all around the world, including at this week’s crucial shipping and environment meetings at the International Maritime Organization headquarters in London.

The youth poster design contest was an initiative launched by the International Windship Association (IWSA) in partnership with Nantes Saint Nazaire Développement, Wind for Goods and Association Wind Ship.
