Wärtsilä has completed installation of its hybrid energy storage system on board offshore support vessel, Viking Princess.
The Norwegian vessel is the first OSV that uses both batteries and liquefied natural gas to reduce the number of generators needed onboard the ship.
The energy storage system will improve energy efficiency, increase fuel savings up to 30% and reduce CO2 emissions between 13-18% according to Wärtsilä.
This hybrid solution will provide a more optimal load on the engines, while the intervals between engine maintenance can be extended.
Shipowner and operator, Eidesvik Offshore, received the Viking Princess on October 9 once sea trials were completed.
