The Exhibition Opens With Great Fanfare
The 37th Europort maritime technology exhibition was launched with great fanfare on Tuesday 3rd November, with the core themes of innovation, efficiency and human capital at the epicentre of the opening ceremony.
The future of the industry and maritime leadership were also at a major focus, especially for the panel of heavyweight Dutch maritime representatives that included Harold Linssen, Director of Keppel Verolme and “Port Personality of the Year 2014”, Vice Admiral Matthieu Borsboom, Director of the Defence Materials Organisation, and Jan Valkier, CEO of the Anthony Veder Group who all shared their visions and beliefs for the future of the global maritime industry. This panel was dominated by talks of LNG fuel and autonomous shipping.
World-First, Dual-Fuel Container Ship Conversion Announced At Europort
German shipping company, Wessels Reederei signed a contract with MAN Diesel & Turbo at the Europort exhibition to retrofit the 8L48/60B main engine of its 1,000-teu container ship ‘Wes Amelie’ to dual-fuel operation.
The ship will be the first of its kind worldwide to be converted to an LNG-capable propulsion system.
Due to the long delivery time of LNG tanks, the engine retrofit will commence in Q4 2016. Full operational usage of LNG as fuel is planned for early December, 2016.
Imtech Marine Rebranded As RH Marine Group At Europort
RH Marine Group, formerly known as Imtech Marine, was introduced this week at Europort.
This re-brand follows the recent acquisition of Imtech Marine by Parcom Capital and Pon Holdings.
Although at the centre of acquisitions, Radio Holland will keep its name but they have a fresh new logo which was revealed to the industry at their exhibition stand during the Europort proceedings.
Europort Hosts Multraship and Damen contract signing For Two Tug Constructions
Towage and salvage specialist Multraship, through its 100-per cent-owned subsidiary Novatug BV, this week signed contracts for the construction of two evolutionary Carrousel Rave Tugs (CRTs) from Damen Shipyards Group.
Construction of the CRTs will begin immediately. The hulls of the vessels will be built by German shipyard Theodor Buschmann GmbH in Hamburg, with final outfitting carried out by Damen Maaskant Shipyards in Stellendam, the Netherlands. Delivery of the Bureau Veritas-classed vessels is scheduled for first-quarter 2017.
Meanwhile, Multraship has also agreed a deal with Damen for a new state-of-the-art ASD 3212 tug as part of its planned fleet expansion to keep pace with increasing demand for its specialist services.
Volvo Penta Launches New D16 Engine At Europort
Volvo Penta launched an updated version of its D16 marine diesel engine at Europort. The launch of the new D16 engine comes ten years after the launch of its original D16 marine steam engine.
The new D16 marine diesel engine is a compact and flexible choice for a complete power package, a multi-engine application, diesel-electric or hybrid solution.
The D16 is available in power ratings from 368 to 551kW and can be used in a variety of applications.
