Press Release: The Fossil Free Freight Challenge 2020 is an innovation competition in Sweden – whose purpose is to challenge various organizations connected to the e-commerce industry to create a freight solution that makes as little fossil footprint as possible.

The project is headed by RISE and the consortium of partners consists of Postnord AB, DHL Freight Sweden AB (DHL), City of Gothenburg, H&M Hennes & Mauritz Sweden A, Houdini Sportsware AB Region Jönköping, Stockholm City, and CLOSER at Lindholmen Science Park. The winning team gets funding (300 000 SEK) and support to develop their idea and vision further. And of course, the honor!

Why Greencarrier participates in this challenge

Greencarrier’s vision is “Creating a more sustainable tomorrow” and it’s within our strategy to be Innovative and Green, which is exactly what this challenge is all about.”, says Åsa Leander, Head of Sustainability & Brand Management at Greencarrier.

“We see this challenge as a great opportunity to spur innovation in our organization and find new and greener solutions. We also appreciate the network of partners, and the opportunity to share knowledge and collaborate for a more sustainable future within logistics.”

The Greencarrier application

In our application we put focus into solving the problem how new solutions can be designed to encourage the use of sustainable delivery methods. We aim to base it on a short sea solution and pair it with modern modes of transports like electrified trucks, trains and bikes as far as possible.

We also want to clearly visualize the wins in terms of emissions and financial aspects, making it easier for customers to make active choices. The project just had a kick off and the teams and challenge management will meet for several workshops during the spring. The finale is on May 4th 2020 in Jönköping.
