First Fuel Saving X-STERN Hull To Be Fitted

The first X-STERN hull is currently being mounted toYno 309, a ship for the offshore wind service industry, ready for shipment to Ulstein Verft at the end of December.

The X-STERN is a design feature that increases operability through positive effects on station keeping, wave response, comfort and safety in harsh conditions. An X-STERN vessel can stay on position in harsh weather with the stern towards waves, wind and current.

The X-STERN shares some of the same characteristics as the X-BOW, including the ability to reduce pitch and wave drift forces and eliminate slamming to reduce power and fuel consumption. It also prevents green sea on deck due to the stern shape and enclosed structure of the aft deck.

Magnar Kvamme, site manager, reported: “The work progress is steady. The hull can be expected to arrive at Ulstein Verft in Ulsteinvik, Norway, in the second half of December.”

Both ships due to receive the X-STERN hulls, the Yno 309 andYno 310, will be delivered from Ulstein Verft in 2016 and 2017.

In 2015, Ulstein Verft signed the shipbuilding contract with Bernhard Schulte for its offshore wind projects affiliate WINDEA Offshore GmhH & Co. KG.
