MHI’s gas supply system consists of four main units:

– a unit that produces compressed natural gas (CNG) by raising    the LNG’s pressure and then heating the gas to normal            temperature according to engine load fluctuations;

– a hydraulic unit that serves as the power source;

– a CNG bottle unit to buffer fluctuations in CNG pressure;

– a gas combustion unit that safely disposes of low-pressure        off-gas and uses the waste heat as a heat source.

The system has low power demands and a compact design, enabling installation in ships where space is limited.

Hitachi Zosen intends to test the system within its marine diesel test engine once it is delivered in the second half of 2016. If successful, the system is expected to be installed on all the marine diesel engines manufactured by Hitachi Zosen.

This is the second order for MHI’s high-pressure gas supply system, the first order came from Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (MES).
