The Meriaura Group has coated the first of two “VG EcoCoaster” dry cargo vessels with underwater hull coating system EcoSpeed.
Ecospeed is a 100% environmentally safe ship hull coating system. One of its unique factors is that with repeated underwater hull cleaning, the coating’s surface aspect does not degrade but gradually improves, according to manufacturers Hydrex.
The application of the antifouling on the newbuild m/s Eeva VG was finalised at the end of January 2016.
Both VG EcoCoaster ships have been designed as a new ship concept by Meriaura together with its partners Foreship Ltd and Aker Arctic Technology Inc. The two vessels are being built Dutch shipyard Royal Bodewes.
Meriaura Group’s aim is to almost halve the fuel consumption compared to conventional dry cargo vessels of similar type and size, and therefore also cut emissions significantly. The ships are also capable of using alternative biofuels.
M/s Eeva VG was launched on February 5, 2016 and has a planned delivery at the end of July. The second vessel is expected to follow in the autumn of 2016.
