LPG carriers can now achieve certification from the Green Award Foundation that certifies ships that significantly surpass minimum required industry standards.
From the 1st of April, 2016, fully refrigerated LPG carriers from 20,000 m3 became are eligible for certification.
The option was launched was launched with the announcement that the first LPG carrier office had already been audited and certified.
Consolidated Marine Management Inc. from Greece is the first Green Award LPG certificate holder to meet the new requirements.
In developing the certification programme for LPG carriers, the main topics relevant that were added/amended to the certification process as compared to other vessel types included:
– Enclosed space entry
– Medical tests on effects from cargoes
– Cargo operations and cargo related safety instructions
– Training / Courses for Personnel
– Additional Green Award Requirements (insulation / heat loss)
No only this but the requirements for LPG carriers go further than the current Green Awards criteria for other vessels, also incorporating also upcoming requirements 2016 that will be released imminently for all ship types.
The new amendments include items in Noise and Vibration Management, Waste Management / Garbage Handling Onboard, STCW related elements (incl. Fatigue Management), Navigation and ECDIS and Sulphur Content of Fuel.
