HullWiper Wins Prestigious Award

GAC EnvironHull’s Hullwiper, a diver-free, fuel-saving, hull cleaning technology, has won the Clean Shipping Award at this year’s Seatrade Awards in London.

HullWiper, which was launched in late 2013, provides efficient hull cleaning solutions to optimise ship performance.  HullWiper cleans the hull of a ship without brushes or divers to reduce resistance, thereby increasing speed and performance while reducing fuel consumption and emissions.

The brushless technology can clean up to 2,000 m² of hull per hour using adjustable pressure water jets which prevents any damage to the anti-fouling surfaces.  This is about five times faster than conventional cleaning methods with divers. As no divers are required, cleaning can take place during loading or unloading operations with no risk to life.

Hailed as the ‘Pinnacle of Maritime Success’, the award night, held May 6 at London’s Guildhall, celebrates those technologies and companies that provide services lying at the forefront of the global maritime industry, and is the only awards night with involvement from the International Maritime Organization (IMO). This award for GAC proves HullWiper’s place in the market as a revolutionary hull cleaning technology that meets the stringent and vital environmental protection standards.

Simon Doran, Managing Director of GAC EnvironHull, who took to the stage to receive the award, commented: “Even in a depressed market place where oil prices have taken the pressure off of vessel efficiency and operating costs to some degree, there will always be room for greater safety and the protection of the environment.”
