GAC EnvironHull’s Hullwiper is to become an available service for ships berthing at the Port of Rotterdam.
The diver-free, fuel-saving, hull cleaning technology, which was launched in late 2013, provides efficient hull cleaning to optimise ship performance. HullWiper cleans the hull of a ship without brushes or divers to reduce resistance, thereby increasing speed and performance while reducing fuel consumption and emissions.
HullWiper is also safer to operate compared with traditional hull cleaning methods as it is a remotely operated vehicle (ROV). It meets local and regional environmental regulations as residues and harmful materials are removed and collected in a special waste unit connected to the ROV, so no waste is discharged into the sea.
The pioneering technology will be demonstrated at event co-hosted by GAC EnvironHull and the Port of Rotterdam at the port on June 23.
This first live demonstration of HullWiper in the Netherlands will be part of a panel discussion titled ‘Smart Ship Technologies and Measures for Greener Ports. The panel will include representatives from the Port of Rotterdam, shipping industry figures and environmentalists discussing the challenge of pollution in port waters. An update on the regulatory landscape will be given and solutions to reduce hull degradation and improve energy efficiency will be showcased.
The event will also include a demonstration of GAC Environhull’s latest free online fuel savings calculator to show participants how to get an instantaneous and accurate calculation of potential savings using Hullwiper compared with traditional methods.
