ABB Opens Integrated Operations Centre in Singapore

ABB has announced that it has opened its first Integrated Operations Centre in Asia, the third opened to date.

The establishment of this Singapore-based Integrated Operations Centre will enable continuous operations once the working day is over in the other two Centres currently located in Finland and Norway.

In order to provide around the clock support, ABB will also be opening  a new Centre in the United States later this year.

The opening of the global Integrated Operations Centres is part of ABB’s principle of the Internet of Things, Services and People that aims to increase sensors and software onboard a ship to send equipment and performance data via a satellite link to allow ship owners to collaborate with ABB to monitor the performance of fleets.  The Centres act as hubs to analyse data onboard and provide a facility to work with the shore-side team to plan maintenance and troubleshoot.

The Integrated Operations Centres allow ship owners to save up to 50% on dry docking costs on ABB equipment if monitoring, pre-survey and project execution are managed in close cooperation between ABB and the ship owner. Data is collected from systems and used as input and maintenance work during dry dockings.

Although ABB’s service engineers are available 24/7, opening a third centre in Singapore will enable ABB’s clients to access engineers working regular hours, with a ship’s data right in front of them.

Johan de Villiers, Managing Director of ABB in Singapore and South East Asia, commented: “The Centre we’re opening is just one example of how our advanced technologies can help Singapore become a Smart Nation, whether it is in transport and infrastructure, industry or utilities, enabling productivity, efficiency and sustainable development”.

Richard Windischhofer, SVP Integrated Operations at ABB’s marine and ports business unit, added:

“ABB’s Integrated Operations Centre is a real world consequence of big data and increasing connectivity in the shipping world.  We have only scratched the surface of what this could mean in the future but the addition of the Singapore facility will increase our capacity to create smarter services.”
