Maersk Line has signed a five-year carbon reduction pact with telecom solutions provider and mobile phone manufacturer, Huawei Technologies, to integrate both companies’ sustainability strategies and commitments with the aim to reduce Huawei’s CO2 emissions.
The partnership will strive to lower Huawei’s per container CO2 emissions transported with Maersk Line by 18% from 2016 to 2020.
In September 2015 Huawei honoured Maersk Line with their ‘Sustainability Excellence Award’ as a symbol of the strategic relationship.
An aligned implementation plan will be developed to operationalise the carbon pact, manage expectations and track progress over time. The carbon pact will help to facilitate transparency related to container transportation and drive forward the sustainability agenda.
Maersk Line is also driving similar agreements with other selected strategic customers in China to help leverage on its investments in energy efficiency and carbon reductions and to create further opportunities to expand its business.
