Carnival Corporation & plc has been recognised for its environmental excellence at the Cruise Annual All Agency Pre-Season Reception, held at the World Trade Center, Seattle last month.
Three of Carnival’s brands, Carnival Cruise Line, Holland America Line and Princess Cruises, which regularly visit the Port of Seattle, were all praised for their environmental stewardship and programs that go above and beyond regulations and industry standards. They all received the Green Gateway Partner Award at the ceremony, which is part of the Port of Seattle’s commitment to promoting sustainable practises in regional cruising.
Carnival Cruise Line also won the Program Innovator Award for its waste reduction incentive program, while Holland America won the Technology Innovator Award for its early adoption of a fuel treatment system that conserves fuel and reduces air emissions.
Carnival Corporation has developed a number of programs to encourage sustainable operations and environmental responsibility. Recently Carnival pledged US $2.5 million to The Nature Conservancy and has hosted leading conservation, science and sustainability organisations at its headquarters for the Mapping Ocean Wealth annual forum.
Carnival also recently partnered with the U.S. Wildlife Trafficking Alliance to combat the poaching, movement and sale of illegal wildlife products.
