Groupe Océan Chooses Ecospeed Hard Coating for Ice-Going Tug

Groupe Océan’s ice-going tug Océan Taiga is to feature Subsea Industries’ Ecospeed biocide-free hard coating to enable it to operate in ecologically sensitive areas.

The hull coating is suited to challenging environments where abrasion and corrosion are common problems.  Ecospeed’s characteristics means that it does not wilt under such conditions and actually improves with time to reduce drag and increase efficiency.

According to Groupe Océan, a previous coating of Ecospeed showed no sign of degradation after 60 months in service following cleaning of the hull with a water jet.

The tug is hailed to be America’s most powerful ice-going tug and is nearing completion at the Industrie Océan shipyard in Ile-aux-Coudres, QC.

Océan Taiga will join the Océan Tundra, which was coated in 2013 with an Ecospeed application. Subsea Industries will also apply the advanced hull protection system to the existing Océan Ross Gaudreault tug, at Groupe Océan’s shipyard in Quebec.
