During the SMM trade fair held last week in Hamburg, Germany, AkzoNobel launched a brand new range of biocide-free premium antifoulings.
The Intersleek 1000 range of biocide free antifoulings use Lanion technology that is made from completely natural and renewable sources from plants that delivers no harm to the environment.
According to the company, up to 6% savings on fuel and CO2 can be achieved from the use of products in this new range.
The coating is smoother than others previously developed to give the highest efficiency possible and in addition is eligible for inclusion in AkzoNobel’s carbon credits initiative that rewards ship owners for reducing their carbon emissions.
In-service trials have shown that Intersleek 1000 has the potential to generate 1,500 carbon credits, the equivalent of 1,500 tonnes of CO2, resulting from a 6% fuel saving that was verified by RINA Services and the Gold Standard Foundation.
Robert Wong, Marketing Director at AkzoNobel Marine Coatings commented: “Thanks to Intersleek 1000’s Lanion technology, we can offer an alternative sustainable coating option, which supports the widespread adoption of eco-efficiency technologies while meeting our commitment to developing innovative coatings in a sustainable way. This will boost the operational and environmental performance of the shipping industry, as well as improving efficiencies and profitability for ship owners and operators.”
